Abstrakt

This study of women and their feminist self-awareness is based on a group reflection process with seven Roman Catholic women. The thesis documents the breakthrough experience in the lives of these women as they name the causes and consequences of their growing feminist self-awareness and the relationship of their self-awareness to their own spiritual journey. The theory of Bernard Lonergan's self-appropriation of the human subject undergirds this study. This theoretical framework shapes the process of theological reflection used with the women and sets the scene for an understanding of emerging consciousness in women that is liberating. A feminist methodology is employed which situates the research in the experience of the researcher. The findings of this study confirm that there is an emerging feminist consciousness among Catholic women which needs to be nurtured by conscientized and sensitive ministers. It also affirms that ministry to women and by women is a priority in the Church today.
