Abstract
  • A congregation should continually evaluate methods employed for communicating the good news in education, worship, and evangelism. Letter-oriented, propositional expression has dominated the mainline Protestant approach. Christians involved in the arts will bring new life through those modalities that are more metaphorical and intuitive--particularly story and visual imagery. The Arts Festival at Foundry United Methodist Church in Virginia Beach, Virginia, provides an occasion for enriching experiences in these areas. It also stimulated a theological study about ways that churches may develop an arts ministry to share the gospel.
