- Abstract
- This project argues that development of a sound theology of mission in the parochial context requires an effective strategy that concentrates on the economically poor, manifests a reliance on God, and fosters collaboration between laypersons and the Vincentians. The author taught volunteers a theory of extraordinary caregiving to achieve these purposes and observed their interactions with households on welfare over a three-month period. The project discovers that some distinctions between laypersons and religious have hindered a more theologically sound development of mission, and suggests some ministerial practices that should promote effective ministry among the poor.
