- Abstract
- This dissertation describes the need for church revitalization and gives a paradigm for church revitalization by focusing upon the biblical priority of revitalization and the biblical accounts of the practices of revitalization. The revitalization of a church is not revival or reformation. It is the biblically delineated and identified principles given to leaders to enable a church to move from its disabled and diseased status to one of vitality and health. This dissertation will point out the necessity of this ministry which will be clarified in the introduction of this paper. This dissertation has seven chapters. Chapter one explains why revitalization is necessary. Chapter two gives several key principles of church revitalization while chapter three gives a biblical paradigm for revitalization. The content of chapter four is a review of four contemporary books that have been written on the subject of revitalization. Chapter five highlights the 'Embers to a Flame' church revitalization conference materials and chapter six suggests several key roles that pastors and leadership can play in keeping their church vital and healthy. Finally, chapter seven offers a look at recent Embers to a Flame conference evaluations as well as candid responses from pastors and elders who attended the conference.
