Abstract
  • Preaching is healing as it is Eucharistic and pays attention to the identity of the people and the pastor. Research of the literature of preaching and pastoral counseling establishes a definition of Eucharistic preaching, healing preaching. Discussion moves through Lucy Rose's conversational preaching, the shepherding concept of Seward Hiltner, the relational pastoral counseling concepts of Wayne Oates, and Henri Nouwen's spirituality basis of pastoral care. Through systems theory, Oates' categories of pastoral counseling are seen to provide a one-to-group grid for observing Eucharistic preaching. Two preaching projects make assessment and conclude that healing in preaching deserves further study.
