Abstract
  • The author researched how church members become deacons or elders who serve as spiritual shepherds in NCCBA local churches. This study was a qualitative examination of the process by which deacons and elders developed into effective spiritual shepherds in their local churches. The study utilized focus groups comprised of four to five men each. The author gleaned the following three conclusions: 1. The calling to spiritual shepherding came soon after conversion. 2. The character necessary to spiritual shepherding formed through the influence of God-appointed individuals. 3. The competencies necessary to spiritual shepherding developed in the context of practical ministry.
