Abstrakt

The author learned that members of the church he pastored were seeking help from traditional Mexican-American healers. In order to understand what was taking place he proposed the following research topic: Why do Mexican-American Lutherans in Corpus Christi seek the help of curanderos/curanderas? The study includes three interviews with healers and five church member case studies. The author outlines a game-plan utilized by Satan in which he uses culture as a means of keeping people from Christ. The study focuses in on three potential problem areas: Satan's method of undermining the believer's relationship with God; our human desire for quick-fixes; and, possible areas in practical theology that need to be addressed.
