Abstract
  • This Doctor of Ministry Project studied the response to hospice care among the Indian Christian families of the Chicagoland area between 2011 to 2018. The project began by describing the role of hospice care as part of end-of-life-care services. It then looked into the perceived biases (both theological and cultural) related to the Indian Christian population. The research was conducted in the form of a survey with forty families and ten pastors that represented various denominations and language groups. The survey assessed how the families of the deceased viewed hospice care and why they chose to accept or decline these services for their loved ones. The response from the survey was analyzed and categorized into areas of theology, culture, and education. The research results showed that the lack of knowledge related to hospice care among Indian Christians was a significant factor in their reluctance to use this service. It also showed that there were cultural factors that contributed to the lack of interest in this service by the families. This study proves that there is a need for further education related to hospice care among the Indian Christian population in this community.
