  • Working with cognitively declining adults does not allow chaplains to minister in the one-size-fits-all method of the parish. As chaplains develop pastoral relationships with their 'congregants' with Alzheimer's disease, they need an understanding of how they can provide spiritual and pastoral care to those who have lost not only their capacity to remember but are also losing their precious memories. This project seeks to give chaplains an understanding of the disease process as well as strategies for rethinking usual modes of conversation, and for finding ways to communicate the faith in new and different ways.
