Abstract
  • This project investigated the personal and professional development practices of ninety-six senior pastors of large Protestant churches (i.e., in excess of 1,000 for weekend services), primarily from the Evangelical Free Church of America, the Baptist General Conference, the Assemblies of God, and the Christian Reformed Church. The selected pastors were asked to fill out a five-page survey about their own personal and professional development practices. The author reviewed the biblical/theological data regarding the New Testament role of pastor/teacher. The author then conducted a brief survey of the personal and professional practices of past Christian leaders. Next, the author compared the data from these two sources with the survey results from the group of pastors selected for this study.
