Abstract
  • At the turn of this millennium, we see an unprecedented spread of the Gospel in the global South, particularly through church planting movements in India. While we rejoice for this open door and the opportunity for the gospel, we also see the challenges in establishing the new believers in the biblical faith as wll as the development of leaders for the emerging churches. The challenge of developing leaders becomes more complex as many of them are oral learners. One of the ways to face the challenge is to use oral methods in training leaders. This thesis describs the opportunities and challenges in Bihar, India. It surveys mission history, particularly focused on the Bihar Reach-Out Network. It builds a biblical and theological foundation for consideration of orality. It also provides a thorough literature review on issues related to orality with special attention to mission thinking.
