Abstract
  • This project was developed and evaluated within a hermeneutic model of pastoral guidance for counselees seeking moral discernment on a life-issue. The theological context for developing the model included biblical realism, a praxis liberation, and a revised correlational method, particularly in the writings of D S Browning and T H Groome. The model of pastoral guidance was unlike brief counseling or crisis intervention. This three to four session model focused on spiritual discernment concerning a particular issue, using guided meditation, homework, and longer breaks between sessions. The eight participants along with an external pastoral counselor judged the pastoral guidance model to be highly effective.
