Abstrakt

The project explores the belief that sermon style affects response to preaching. In Britain they widely hold that as age, church background and Christian commitment diminish, a positive response increases to topical (as compared to expository) preaching and the presence of multimedia. Eight sermons were preached, four in each style with multimedia as a variable. Eighty people completed questionnaires after each sermon, with twelve follow-up interviews. The research produced no conclusive data, but there were clear indications of preference for topical sermons as age reduced and expository sermons as age increased. No patterns were discernable regarding multimedia. There were no strong negative responses to any style variation.
