Abstrakt

A review of selected authors found that the Western Christian church has perpetuated and transmitted the patriarchal worldview of the first century Mediterranean world that included a view of the role and nature of women that is now associated with co-dependency (a recently described condition characterized by dysfunctional relationship to self, other, and God), suggesting that patriarchal values may no longer be functional for individuals and institutions in modern society. Implications for the church as a patriarchal institution are explored, with particular attention to the Anglican tradition. A suggested new approach to spirituality for Christian women is included.
