  • A review of selected authors found that the Western Christian church has perpetuated and transmitted the patriarchal worldview of the first century Mediterranean world that included a view of the role and nature of women that is now associated with co-dependency (a recently described condition characterized by dysfunctional relationship to self, other, and God), suggesting that patriarchal values may no longer be functional for individuals and institutions in modern society.
