Abstract
  • Three types of interim leaderships (when a pastor leaves a congregation) have become common in modern Protestant church life: 1) the interim pastor; 2) the interim consultant, and 3) the interim lay-leadership. This paper is a description and study of a fourth type, the interim administrator, regularly practiced by one Conference of the United Church of Christ. It combines the best aspects of developing lay-leadership and providing expert guidance for the lay-leadership in the interim period. The example provided shows the practical aspects of the implementation of the work of the interim administrator.
