Abstract
  • This project revelas the process of equipping the First Baptist Church of Archdale to practive a consistent biblical prayer life. Expository preaching, interviews, and personal improvement plans form the basis of analysis of the focus group member's prayer lives in the areas of personal prayer life, family prayer life, and corporate prayer life. Chapter 1 serves as an introduction to the overall thesis of the project for the church. Special attention is given to contextual an demographic composition of the church along with the goals of the project. Chapter 2 provides the biblical and theological foundation for approaching the project. Selections from the Old and New Testaments serve as examples for various kinds of prayer in the Bible. The theological section examines the role that prayer played in the lives of Calvin and Wesley. Chapter 3 examines the pragmatic or experiential role that prayer has played in the lives of historical and contemporary people of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Chapter 4 explains the process used in implementing this project. Attention was given to sermon summaries, pre and post sermon series questionnaires, and the purpose of the personal improvement plan. Chapter 5 focuses on analysis and evaluation of data gathered from the research instruments. Statistical analysis and chart representations are used to understand the results gathered before and after the project.
