Abstract
  • This project grew out of a double query: to discover, if possible, why devotional practices do not seem to be a credible expression of faith for the lay person who place themselves center and left of center on the theological spectrum; and, to ascertain which kinds of devotional material seem to be the more relevant when and if chosen. The consensus of the group was that spiritual disciplines remain a viable expression of spirituality, the Bible is still the primary source of inspiration, spontaneous and extemporaneous prayer are practiced with a high degree of regularity, meditation is practiced but not cultivated and devotional reading covers the gamut from theology and biography to poetry, drama and fiction.
