Abstract
  • This project focuses on the dynamics of the multiple-point charge in United Methodism. The study analyzes data from questionnaires returned by clergy and laity of multiple-point and small membership single-point charge churches in the Central Illinois Conference and their district superintendents. In addition, the pastor and laity of a recently created multiple-point charge were interviewed. This information was analyzed and presented at a clergy workshop. The project revealed many of the tensions in the multiple-point charge relationship which center around the need for churches to share their 'pastor-lover' and the need to involve laity from the outset in the multiple-point charge formation process.
