Abstract
  • Nearly all of the students involved in worship leadership at Messiah College are volunteers who receive no stipend, work-study compensation, or academic credit for their efforts. Some are involved in music department ensembles which require their participation, several are over-involved in leadership activities, and others have rigorous majors. These student leaders need at least two formational realities: a spiritual formation model that does not add another layer of activity to their already hectic lives, and an intentional formational relationship with a pastoral educator-mentor who can help them engage in meaningful practices of Christian spiritual formation and deepen their skills in worship leadership. Distinctive pilot groups allowed the author to research, investigate, and delineate ideas and models for intentional formation mentoring. Evaluation of project activities, survey and interview responses, and different data forms rendered key findings to inform the re-formulation of the worship community in the context of Messiah College.
