Abstract
  • Pastoral care for Mount Zion and Star of Zion Methodist Episcopal Zion Churches, the Hookerton Circuit, has been strengthened by training and commissioning a team of lay persons to collaborate with the pastor to give spiritual, emotional, and social support to critically and chronically ill persons and their caregivers. Traditional Christian healing practices of intercessory prayer, anointing with oil, and laying on of hands were introduced to team members as practical applications of the priesthood of believers, principles of discipleship, the spiritual disciplines, and a small group of disciple-making process.
