Abstract
  • This project selected the Sayings of Abba Anthony, Abba Moses, Abba Poemen, and Amma Syncletica. It presented lessons for the critical reading of these Sayings to modern Christians as resourceful companions to their Christian spiritual practices. It sought to establish the vitality of these Sayings for Christian spiritual practices in the 21st century. The project introduced the participants to the Sayings and the positive leadership the Sayings give to Christian spirituality. It engaged the participants in reading the Sayings critically, while also connecting the sayings to the time-tested Christian practices of humility, prayer, silence, forgiveness, and resistance.
