- Abstract
- The project will select and present compelling images of the inclusive nature of the church through a series of narrative sermons. The project leader will enlist a cross-section of church members for interviews. The project leader, under the supervision and guidance of a sociologist, will listen for images of the nature of the church. He will preach a series of narrative sermons designed to undergird the biblical images of the nature of the church. The compelling images and metaphors in the sermon series will replace the non-biblical understandings of the nature of the church. These sermons will create a biblical, prophetic, and positive view of the church, by that helping the church in its goal of improving assimilation. Following the sermon series, the project leader will again interview the interviewees, under the supervision and guidance of the sociologist, to listen for changes in images and metaphors. If the sermon series is compelling, he will detect a change in understanding by listening for changes in metaphors and images.
