- Abstract
- This thesis paper addresses the challenge facing the church today in fulfilling one of Christendom's most enduring responsibilities: ministry with the poor. The author considered the feasibility of using a community poverty education model of interpersonal engagement as a ministry tool in a church setting. With artistic imagination, based on data gathered from surveys, focus groups and interviews, the author adapted the community model to develop a framework of engaged generosity. The thesis is support for the church to do the hard work of engagement Jesus did, and thereby build mutual relationships that empower the poor and enhance Christian discipleship.
