- Abstract
- This project explores worshippers' responses to images evoked by the hymn language in The Book of Praise (1972), the hymn book of the Presbyterian Church in Canada. An awareness of the dimensions and possibilities for personal meaning, along with a preparation for the use of new hymn images, is explored in a series of congregational workshops. A phenomenological approach is applied to this qualitative research project. Conclusions relate to: sensitivity to worshippers' understandings; the way God's Word is proclaimed; the necessity for continuous reformation; intentionality in singing hymns; and the facilitation and selection of hymn book resources.
