Abstract
  • This study's purpose is to discover the valued impact of advanced formal theological training on leadership development in the life of the African-American pastor in the National Baptist Convention. Most of the study focuses twelve such pastors in Alabama with advanced degrees from various theological seminaries. In the course of the author reading literature, conducting interviews, writing the dissertation and reflecting upon his own experiences, it was clear to him that seminaries, local churches and conventions must play a part in responding to the needs of these pastors. Several recommendations and challenges have been formulated to this extend.
