Abstract
  • This study explored how members of an American Baptist church and a Presbyterian Church (USA) congregation benefitted from following a modified monastic Orthodox Christian prayer rule of praying through all 150 canonical Psalms over the course of 20 days. Participants individually prayed three groups of Psalms each day for 20 days during Advent 2023, including the Lord’s Prayer. Participants then completed open-ended surveys and discussed the experience in a focus group. Nearly all the participants expressed satisfaction with praying the Psalms; about half reported that the pacing was too aggressive and favored a modified schedule of praying the Psalms.
