Abstract
  • This project provides an opportunity for parents and teenagers to improve ability to communicate with one another through learning appropriate skills. A selected group of parents and teenagers participated in an eight-week project involving listening, talking, decision making, and conflict resolution. Willingness of parents to make a change in the way they approached communication relieves some of the anxiety that accompanies many types of parent-teen innteractions. Among the elements of improved communication are time involvement, genuineness, and unconditional love. Skills alone will not change the way that messages are received and interpreted, but when changes in behavior patterns occur parents and teenagers open the doors for improved relationships and communication.
