Abstract

This dissertation sought to develop and evaluate curriculum for teaching children in the Free Methodist Church the purpose, meaning, and practice of the sacrament of the Lord's Supper. The study evaluated ministry to children, reviewed Free Methodist theology of the Lord's Supper, examined the practices of other denominations with regard to children and Communion, and analyzed how children learn. A curriculum, combining storytelling, the use of objects, wondering questions, play, drama, and music, was developed and tested in two Free Methodist churches. Testing found the children evidenced a greater understanding of the meaning and purpose of Communion after the lessons.
