Abstrait
  • Learning negotiation skills before marriage can positively strengthen a couple's compatibility during marriage. Compatibility is established in the first session of a five-session program by using William Schutz's FIRO-B inventory, family systems data, and the couple's courtship data. During the fifth session, the couple retake the FIRO-B and again respond to a taped marital conflict. The retest results show evidence of growth. Results from the program demonstrate that four of the five couples tested show an increase in negotiation learning and compatibility. Therefore, in a preliminary manner negotiation learning seems to contribute substantially toward compatibility growth.
