- Abstract
- The rite of baptism in the Anglican Church can be a spiritually rewarding experience when it is done in Igbo cultural context in the light of missional theology. Thus while the Igbo naming ceremony makes one an Igbo, the rite of baptism makes one a Christian. The author analyzed the Anglican rite of baptismal ritual as it is contained in The Book of Common Prayer in the light of Turner's theory of rituals. He used missional theology as a lens to examine the rite of baptism in the Igbo context of eastern Nigeria. The study showed that baptismal ritual could be enriching when it is done in the light of missional theology.
