  • What would happen if a group of United Methodists in a military community situated in a conservative southern city were to be introduced to Islam and be engaged with Muslims during the war on terror? The hypothesis of this project is simple: knowledge plus experience equals acceptance. Through the research methods of surveys, interviews, and focus group instruction, the author discovered the validity of the projects hypothesis. This study found when Christians gained a working knowledge of Islam and had the opportunity of interacting with Muslims, the result was a new openness to religious diversity.
