Abstract
  • This project planned, implemented, and evaluated a practical formation process using Alan Knox's proficiency theory, which rests on the concept that 'proficiency is the capability to perform if given the opportunity.' The project was implemented in two Roman Catholic parishes in San Antonio, Texas. This was a planning/action/evaluation project that included development of a nine-hour formation process and a test instrument to evaluate results. Change was confirmed in both parishes, with the most significant amount in the area of general ministry. This project affirmed the value of formal training for parish pastoral council membership.
