Abstract

The purpose of the project was to develop an orientation program for new church members that provided doctrinal instruction using self-directed sessions with a video and workbook. The sessions introduce new members to the doctrines of God, Christ, church, salvation, and the Christian life. These studies allow church members to work at their own pace and according to their own schedule requirements. This method will enable members to complete a program of instruction that otherwise may be impossible for them to complete. The program of instruction thus is contextualized, responding to the needs and schedules of the residents of Tierra Verde. Lack of appropriate church facilities and the travel schedules of the members of The Island Chapel make it difficult to conduct such a study in a typical classroom setting and according to traditional church schedules.
