Abstract
  • This paper addresses how preaching can strengthen the community in its self-understanding of being the baptized. The author drew on two experiential theories of preaching: 'mystagogy', based on the work of Craig A. Satterlee, and 'preaching as celebration', based on the work of Frank A. Thomas. The author integrated and applied these theories to his preaching in his Lutheran context. From feedback from congregation members, professors and peers, he drew conclusions on how his experientially preaching baptism impacted the congregation's self-understanding and practice.
