Abstrakt

The project analyzed the perceptions of the pastor and lay leaders regarding the pastor's motives and style of using power. It examined the biblical terms for power and correlated these with the organizational perspectives on power. The project design used 'The Power Management Survey' to compare perceptions. The pastor felt motivated primarily by affiliation and friendship. The laity felt the pastor was motivated primarily by socialized power. A democratic leadership style was present. Clearer goal statements for the church, an acceptance of power as necessary for the church and better connections between theology and practice are needed.
