Abstract
  • This project addressed the problem of declining attendance in Sunday school. The theory was that the problem could be influenced with improved teaching, more intentional follow-up of absentees, and starting new classes regularly. The theory was tested in a variety of churches, followed by a three-year evaluation. Results indicated that the theory is correct with some additional factors. Seven recommendations are made for local churches: 1) organize Sunday school administration; 2) start new classes periodically; 3) create a teacher recruiting plan; 4) involve pastor/staff; 5) study the surrounding community; 6) keep good records; and 7) plan far ahead.
