- The author's purpose was to use creative stories (self-written and/or collected) to illustrate and illuminate the Beatitudes of Matthew 5:1-12 so they might be more easily incorporated and retained in the lives of hearers. Over a period of 13 weeks the author presented stories over each beatitude, using pre-tests and post-tests, to measure any changes on the participant that may have been a result of the story's influence. One week after the story the author presented a sermon on the previous beatitude to help underscore the point of the story itself. At the beginning and end of the project, spiritual growth assessment inventories were administered to determine any overall changes in attitude and action. The project proved to be successful, showing positive changes in participants' understanding and incorporating the character traits presented in the Beatitudes.
