Abstract
  • This project develops a biblical perspective on bribery and extortion and applies it to the Philippine context to help missionaries and national Christians better understand and deal with the bribery problem. It explores Filipino attitudes toward bribery and the biblical boundaries of what constitutes a bribe. It shows the Bible consistently condemns bribery and extortion. This condemnation is not based on contexual factors, but on God's impartial character and universal concern for justice for all mankind. Suggestions are given concerning (1) evaluating gifts to determine if they are bribes, (2) teaching about bribery, and (3) demonstrating alternatives to bribery.
