- Abstract
- This project discusses a ministry for nursing home residents designed not only with a group, but also with individuals, one to one. Willing residents in a designated nursing home and volunteers from local congregations met individually as partners and in small group gatherings within the institution in order to provide spiritual companionship and spiritual well being for the residents. Storytelling based on the Christian scriptures, affirmed one's value, enlightened one's understanding of God's presence in daily life, and fostered friendships. Evaluations determined that both the residents and volunteers experienced being valued, realized a new sense of self worth and were spiritually nurtured.
