Abstract
  • This project explores the dynamic of shame in the lives of gay men. The method is a series of ninety-minute interviews with nine gay men. This allows us to hear the stories of gay men as they uncover the shame in their lives. Shame interferes with the positive affects of gay men, it causes gay men to experience isolation, a sense of being defective, and it contributes to failure around the issues of growth and development. Pride results when gay men come out, restoring interpersonal bridges. The church needs to be a community which offers positive mirroring to gay men.
