Abstract
  • Experiences of suffering are part of the human condition, but they also challenge how someone understand and knows God and Christ in their life and in the world. This study explored how faith changes and develops at times of suffering and after, using Pargament's RCOPE and the author's questionnaire on faith behaviors. Using McClure's roundtable pulpit method for an 8-week study, the author taught a lectionary-based class focused on making sense of suffering, and wove personal stories, scripture, and emerging theological themes to inform the preaching. Pre- and post-test comparisons showed significant development of more mature faith among the study group, when compared with two control groups.
