Abstract
  • This study developed as a result of the author's work as a conflict process consultant. The unique call of the congregation has challenged the church to respond to new needs and problems at the end of the twentieth century. The project is a study of the special role of congregations and the unique relationship between the social sciences and theology. It includes an overview of literature available on consultation, conflict and community and an analysis of two processes of intervention: 'shalom-building' and 'bridgebuilder.' Four case studies illuminate the two intervention processes. The study concludes with an analysis of the processes and the author's synthesis of theory and practice.
