Abstract
  • The thesis explores a technique of untapping memories that may be stored up among older adults. Research has shown that older adults are helped by someone who asks questions about the past. Loneliness and depression are common symptoms of older adults. Without a feeling that life has had meaning in the past it is easy to lose identity and integrity. Life review helps maintain a person's integrity, identity, and self-worth. It provides a legacy to the younger generation. It can help a person cope with loss, grief, and depression. The tape helps sensitize and provide helpful information to professional and volunteer workers who may wish to provide a listening and supporting presence to the home-bound and institutionalized person.
