- The purpose of this study was to determine principles for funding local United Methodist Churches that are effective and consistent with a sound theology of stewardship. The project is limited to funding the local church, while recognizing that stewardship includes the totality of life in response to God as Creator and Redeemer. The study includes an overview of the history of church funding, an analysis of current funding programs, and a comparative inquiry of local churches, ministers and funding practices in the North Texas Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church. This study indicates that within the limits of a given local church situation, those churches most successful in funding include funding within a larger theological understanding of stewardship and discipleship.
