- Abstract
- This ministry research project involves the laity in the shepherding ministry of Oakwood Baptist Church in Charleston, West Virginia. Chapter one defines the context of the project and provides a broad outline of the efforts made. Chapter two examines the biblical, theological, and historical basis of lay shepherding. Chapter three looks at contemporary models for lay shepherding and pastoral care, including small groups, Sunday school, and a deacon family ministry plan. Chapter four describes the implementation of the project and circumstances that influenced its effectiveness. Chapter five evaluates the progress made by the project, using a questionnaire and personal conversations with project participants. This project stresses that shepherding and pastoral care, traditionally seen as the responsibility of the clergy alone, are a ministry for every member of the body of Christ.
