Abstract
  • This research describes the lived experience of healing marital sexual betrayal in North American missionary women. Phenomenological methodology was employed to elicit 15 women's stories of betrayal and healing. Three main frameworks of meaning emerged in the precedent literature and research interviews: addiction, traumatology and transformation. Biblical word studies anchored the research: imago Dei, one flesh, sexual sin, betrayal and healing. The findings reveal that healing is a complex and lengthy process. The women found God faithful through multilayered betrayals. Recommendations for missionary women and member care providers are given. Therapeutic considerations and further research are addressed.
