Abstract
  • Individuals in a local parish who undergo a critical (prolonged and-or life threatening) illness may experience a religious faith crisis. From a literary review of theodicy, the book of Job and crisis management, the author develops numerous hypotheses regarding ministry to critically ill parishioners. He then surveys and interviews critically ill persons who are both members of selected 'mainline' churches and residents of the Lower Yakima Valley of Washington state. The findings of this exploratory study suggest numerous actions which are helpful or harmful in reducing the severity and enhancing the effective management of a faith crisis.
