Abstract
  • This action research project was to determine if individuals felt closer to God through daily meditation on biblical parables, if there were a difference in gender answers, and if there were uniquely Appalachian responses. Using the participant/observer approach, all participants kept daily journals, answered a questionnaire, and weekly meetings were taped. This project found individuals feeling closer to God, gender response differences, and occasionally, typical Appalachian responses. It was found 'Appalachian' could not be evenly applied to area persons, some women in the group displayed masculine expressive characteristics, and this manner of meditation might not supplant daily devotional time.
