Abstract
  • This project-thesis asks: 'In what ways does modern fiction dealing with suffering help members of the Faith, Film, and Fiction group of Asbury Methodist Church deal with suffering?' Using the pro-active (qualitative) research method, the author examined works of modern fiction, developed a biblical/theological foundation, and led the group in six sessions based on films, short stories, and a novel. The author found that modern fiction helped participants deal with suffering through: insights gained, identification, experiences/expressions of compassion, growth in faith/theological understanding, exposure to other cultures/experiences, participating in a supportive community, and emotional healing and growth.
